The Studio
How We Began
Northern Interiors was established in 2014 by lead designer Eleanor Shaw, following a decade working across some of the UK's most respected architectural practices. Frustrated by interiors that prioritised trend over longevity, Eleanor set out to build a studio defined by restraint, craft, and an obsessive attention to material quality.
What began as a one-person practice in Edinburgh has grown into a close-knit team of designers, project managers, and artisan collaborators — united by a shared commitment to work that is considered, personal, and built to last.
Today, Northern Interiors works with private residential clients, developers, and select commercial partners across the UK, delivering spaces that are as functional as they are beautiful.

We begin every project with material selection. The weight of a stone, the grain of a timber, the patina of aged brass — these are the foundations everything else is built upon.
Light as Architecture
We treat light as a structural element, not an afterthought. Natural and artificial light are choreographed together to define mood, depth, and the passage of time through a space.
